ADMISSIONS

Thought Quotient is non-profit and primarily supported through the contributions paid by its families. We seek to be available to people based on fit, rather than income, so we currently offer fees on a sliding scale. In determining our fees and sliding scale process, we’ve focused on trust, access, responsibility, and sustainability.

  • Flexible admissions schedule:

We are currently accepting applications for the 2017/18 year based on space availability.

    Rolling enrollment:

Since each student’s curriculum is self-generated, you can enroll throughout the year. Tuition is prorated for the portion of the year enrolled.

    Tuition:

    Here is how it works:

Thought Quotient is non-profit and primarily supported through the contributions paid by its families. We seek to be available to people based on fit, rather than income, so we currently offer fees on a sliding scale. In determining our fees and sliding scale process, we’ve focused on trust, access, responsibility, and sustainability.

To be able to operate and pay basic expenses, we need to meet an average of $400 per month (for 9 months) per child, with some families paying the average, some paying less, and some paying more. After considering your family’s financial situation, please propose an amount that feels both generous – adequately values the program and all that is required to make it happen, and responsible – does not bring about resentment or threaten your ability to meet your personal needs. Please keep in mind:

We do not want cost to be prohibitive for any families, however, this sliding scale process only works if we have enough families contributing more than the average needed, in order to balance out those who truly need to contribute less than average.

If your current situation allows you to pay more than the average, these additional funds will help us be more accessible AND would be tax deductible (contact us for details).

The monthly proposal does not correspond to the number of days Thought Quotient is open in a given month, rather it is simply 1/9 of the total proposed contribution for the year, to support all that goes into operating and sustaining the program (for example, a $400/month proposal is equivalent to $3,600/year).

    Enrollment Process:

    Step 1: Research:

Explore the ALC educational model and our comprehensive FAQ page. Visit our Resources page to find links to articles, websites, videos & books that have inspired our learning community.

Some people immediately see the social value of our program and think they can fill the perceived academic void by having their child follow an online curriculum at home. An online course is fine if it truly is your child’s choice. However, any type of academics or extra-curricular activity that is forced upon your child is contrary to our program’s philosophy. It sends a mixed-message to your child that our program is for playing and the “real” learning takes place at home.

    Step 2: Attend:

Attend an upcoming Info Session or set up an in-person meeting with Thought Quotient. Explore available dates and RSVP here. To set up an in-person meeting, please email us at info@thoughtquotient.org.

    Step 3: Apply:

We are currently accepting children ages 6-15. If you have already had an in-person meeting and are ready to take the next step, please fill out our online application and pay the $25 application fee. We’ll contact you to confirm a visiting week for your child.

    Step 4: Visiting Week:

We will contact you to schedule a 2-week visit. A 2-week visit allows the student to experience what it is like to be here and ensures the student is a good fit for our environment. (Fee: $175).

    Step 5: Final Enrollment:

The prospective family will let the admissions committee know if they would like to pursue enrollment. The admissions committee will make a final determination.

If accepted after the visiting week, you complete your enrollment by paying a 10% deposit of the annual tuition and executing the final enrollment documents.

If you haven’t already read the application overview please do so now, otherwise continue.
